Brevard native Michael Hosey, has been selected as the manager for Zero Gravity Skatepark, Transylvania's new skatepark scheduled to open the Spring of 2002.
Hosey has most recently served as manager for the Food Lion Skatepark in Asheville. "I am excited about being able to come home to Brevard," said Hosey. "I can think of no better job - being able to do something I love in my hometown and being able to provide a quality sports venue for kids in Transylvania County."
Hosey has been an active skateboarder in the community for over 15 years. He is a 2000 graduate of Appalachian State University with a degree in Recreation Management. Hosey is also an instructor at Camp Woodward, the premier summer camp for extreme sports. He also competes in extreme sport competitions throughout the region.
Hosey says he looks forward to sharing his expertise with everyone who visits Zero Gravity skatepark.
"As a youth, I can remember skateboarding with all my friends on the streets of Brevard. Now I'll be able to share my enthusiasm and love of bikes, skateboards and rollerblades in an amazing, state-of-the-art facility that is dedicated to safety and to providing kids with a wholesome, inspiring environment."
Hosey has been working with owners Tim Brenton and Barbara Kreager to design the new skatepark. Soon, Hosey says, they will begin to select staff for the park. "We plan to hire a knowledgeable, enthusiastic
team that can really support kids at growing and excelling. Inline skating, skateboarding and BMX bike riding has grown exponentially in recent years. Extreme sports enthusiasts are looking for quality facilities where they can practice their sport. It is our goal to make the park a great venue for Transylvania County children and to make it one of the premier parks in the Southeast for all extreme sports enthusiasts."
Zero Gravity Skatepark is a multifaceted arena that will offer over 10,000 sq. feet of skating and biking surface in a 12,000 sq. foot steel building, providing room for 40 to 65 participants. The park will feature a street course with challenging elements such as half pipes, spines, fun boxes, and grinding rails.
